We all have one…whether you call them resolutions, a bucket list, or simply “to-do”, we all have things that we want to try by years’ (or life’s) end. My list is simple, though extensive.
A quick glance at mine and you’ll find many of your own endeavors listed neatly in ink- one number on the scale, another in the bank account. Travel more, stress less. Learn a new language, pick up more books. More time outside with the kid and less in front of the TV. In order to meet these goals, you sometimes have to make sacrifices, find motivation within yourself or just suck it up and take a leap of faith.
That, folks, is exactly what I did the first weekend of this new year.
At ten thousand feet the door opened.
At twelve thousand, I found myself free-falling toward Earth during one of the single most exhilarating experiences of my life.
Shortly after taking the leap with my instructor, Alex.
Seeing the world from that point of view while floating down with no sound other than the wind passing through your chute has the most calming effect. Looking out across the landscape somehow puts things into perspective and you reach the ground not only with the post-adrenaline euphoria, but an over-all sense of happiness.
It may not be for everyone, but if you have ever had even the slightest interest in doing this, or simply need to cross it off of your aforementioned list, go ahead and take the leap. I have to thank my adoring, and adorable, friend boyfriend (!!!) for taking me on this amazing ride.
"The guy".
There is no doubt in my mind that there will be many, many more jumps to come.
If you would like more information on the location where I made my first jump, contact the good folks at Skydive Spaceland.
